Snow and Water Damage

With our first snowfalls in the books in Beaver County it’s time to get prepared for winter.  Here are some common damages created by snow.

Roof Damage- Heavy snows can cause ice build up and tile damage to your roof.  Make sure heat is not escaping from your roof causing snow to melt and re harden into ice.  Keep an eye on any roof damage that can lead to leaks and saturation in your roof and attic causing mold growth.

Ground Saturation - Our winters have been very unpredictable in the past years.  With a constant mix of cold and hot weather, it’s always good to be prepared with the weather pattern shifts. Snow in itself may not be a danger, but melting snow can cause flooding and severe ground saturation that may leak into your foundation.  This may cause underlying conditions such as mold growth.

Frozen Pipes - While not technically snow related, the risk of frozen pipes is just as damaging to your home.  Make sure to keep the temperature in your home above 60 degrees.  If you leave your home for multiple days, keep water dripping through the faucets to be proactive.  It’s also best to shut off any water sources on the exterior of your home that aren’t insulated, like garage or outside faucets.
